Our Doctors “Ngalla Bidi” Our Pathway is about Aboriginal Doctors working together along a shared pathway that emphasizes working in Indigenous ways. Sharing the work and knowledge allows us to be a stronger voice collectively to advance our work together.

We aim to increase the number of Aboriginal Doctors delivering health care to Aboriginal people in Western Australia. To achieve this, we aspire to fund Aboriginal Medical Students and Junior Doctors to PRIDoC. 

The bursary is a monetary award of $5,000 made by AHCWA to cover the individual’s registration, travel and accommodation. It is awarded to enable the recipients to attend PRIDoC.

Eligibility: 
You are eligible to apply for the bursary if you: 
  • Are an Aboriginal Medical Student OR Junior Doctor.
  • Currently reside in Western Australia. 
  • Have or intend to register to attend the biennial PRIDoC.
  • Have not received a bursary for this purpose from any other organisation. 
How to Apply: Complete the online application form 

What happens next: A selection panel will meet to review and consider all applications. The panel will consist of: 
  • The PRIDoC Aunties and Uncles, and-
  • The ACHWA Public Health Medical Officer.  
Applications will be processed within two (2) weeks. After the applications are assessed you will receive formal notification of the outcome. If your application is successful you will need to:
  • Provide AHCWA with identification showing your full name.
  • Complete a travel request form.
  • Register for PRIDoC requesting a pay later link.

RACP Sponsorship 

The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) is offering sponsored opportunities for RACP trainees to attend PRIDoC 2024. Sponsorship will cover the cost of registration. Financial support may also be available to assist with transport and accommodation costs. 

Sponsorship is provided through the RACP’s Indigenous Leadership Fund which is available to provide funding towards activities that enrich the training experience, well-being and leadership and / or development support of members who identify as Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander Peoples, Māori or Pacific Peoples.

To apply for RACP sponsorship, you need to: 

  • Identify as an Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander Person, Māori or Pacific Peoples
  • Be a registered trainee with the RACP
  • Complete the application form by 31 August 2024.

Queensland Health 

3x opportunities for QLD-Based PGY2/PGY3 AIDA Members | Click here to apply
Queensland Health is offering sponsorship for 3x Post Graduate Year 2 and 3 Junior Medical Officers to attend PRIDoC 2024. This is a fantastic opportunity for AIDA members who are currently based in Queensland to attend congress.  We encourage all eligible JMOs to apply for this valuable opportunity to engage with fellow First Nations medical professionals and advance your career.

To be eligible for these opportunities, you must:
  • Be an AIDA member
  • Be a PGY2 or PGY3
  • Be based in Queensland
  • Apply before 23 August 2024 

The sponsorship will cover the following expenses:

  • Accommodation for 5 nights (from 1-6 December)
  • Return flights to Adelaide from your nearest major airport
  • Ground transfers in Adelaide (airport to hotel, return)
  • Congress registration costs

 Application Process

If you wish to apply for this funding, please follow the steps below:

  1. Apply for funding via the provided link.
    • You will need to create a new account to apply; this is different from your AIDA member portal login.
    • Set up your account and complete pre-registration to continue the application process.
  2. Provide necessary details.
    • You will be asked to provide card details to assist us in booking your room if your application is successful. No money will be taken from this card – it is a guarantee only and will be provided to the hotel to cover additional nights and incidental charges.
  3. Complete the application.
    • Submit a 250-word statement and other required documents, such as leave approval confirmation and your graduation certificate. If you have not recently graduated, you must provide proof of enrolment in your current program.
  4. Application assessment.
    • Applications will be assessed and shortlisted, and successful candidates will progress in the selection process for approval.

ANZEF First Nations Scholarships 

The Australian and New Zealand Eye Foundation (ANZEF) invites First Nations junior doctors and medical students interested in eye health to apply for scholarships to attend PRIDoC 2024 on Kaurna Country. RANZCO ophthalmologists will host a hands-on Eye School session at PRIDoC. Scholarship recipients must show a strong interest in eye health and ophthalmology as a career.

Eligibility:  These scholarships aim to facilitate the participation of aspiring ophthalmologists in PRIDoC 2024. They are available to First Nations junior doctors and medical students, who are members of either The Australian Indigenous Doctors Association (AIDA), or Te Ohu Rata O Aotearoa (Te ORA) Māori Medical Practitioners Association. 

Scholarship may cover up to $3,600 for:
  • Conference registration
  • Travel to/from Adelaide
  • Hotel accommodation

Joint Colleges Training Services (JCTS) Scholarships 

Joint Colleges Training Services (JCTS) is offering a limited number of scholarships to support Indigenous GP Registrars to attend PRIDoC this year. JCTS is excited to offer the following scholarship package:

  • Full registration to PRIDoC 2024: Includes attendance to all sessions, access to the PRIDoC 2024 Mobile App, Exhibition Hall, daily breakfasts from Tuesday to Friday, participation in Connection to Country Day, all program break catering, a 2024 Congress shirt, a Congress satchel and a ticket to all three social functions.
  • $1000 towards the cost of your travel and accommodation
  • Invitation to a networking dinner
Eligibility: Applicants of the JCTS scholarship must identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
Be a registrar in a current term with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) or the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP)
