AIDA 2025 CONFERENCE ABSTRACT SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

AIDA are seeking abstract submissions for the AIDA 2025 Conference being held on Gadigal Country at the Sydney International Convention Centre (ICC Sydney), Tumbalong (Darling Harbour).

Conference Streams

While AIDA provides these streams for guidance, abstracts may be relevant to multiple streams and all innovative projects, programs, research and initiatives are encouraged to submit an abstract. View the stream overviews in full.

 Submission Types

We are calling for abstracts in the following categories which align to the conference streams.

  • Oral Presentations - 15-minute oral presentations with 5 minutes question time, total 20minutes
  • The Quick and the Deadly Presentations - Fast paced competition style presentations with prizes.
  • Poster Presentations - Displayed throughout the days of the conference.


Workshop Types

Workshops can be submitted as educational/discussion, clinical/procedural skills, or a wellness activity.

  • Interactive Workshops โ€“ 1-hour and 2-hour timeframes offered as part of the conference program on Friday and Saturday.
  • Full or Half Day Post-Conference Workshops โ€“ this offering would be delivered at the total expense of the workshop host (catering, room hire, etc).


Abstract Submission Guidelines

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander medical students, junior doctors, registrars and medical specialists are strongly encouraged to submit abstracts for the AIDA 2025 Conference. 

AIDA is particularly interested in presentations, workshops, and poster presentations that are interesting, thought provoking, action-oriented and/or solution-focused. AIDA provides a culturally responsive environment to share knowledge and have dynamic conversations, with a requirement that all abstracts and presentations to value diversity, promote reflection, use appropriate and safe terminology and language and use strengths-based approaches actively minimising deficit and dichotomous language and concepts.

AIDA encourages all abstracts and presentations to have an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander presenter or co-presenter, or in the case of international submissions a First Nations presenter or co-presenter, who is leading or meaningfully partnering on the project, research, activity, or initiative to be considered.


Submissions led by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people or international First Nations Peoples will be given preference during review and selection.

All abstracts will be peer reviewed by a subcommittee of the AIDA Conference Committee in accordance with these guidelines.

  1. All abstracts must be:
    1. submitted to one of the conference streams
    2. structured using the outlined format
    3. no more than 300 words for presentations or 500 words for workshops.
    4. written using culturally appropriate and safe terminology and language
    5. completed in full and submitted via the approved submission portal
    6. include a biography of each presenting author
    7. submitted by 5PM Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) on 6 June 2025 abstracts received after the due date will NOT be accepted
  2. Accepted poster presentations must be displayed by 8AM Friday 28 November at the latest on the authors assigned poster number.
  3. Accepted poster presentations will be displayed for the duration of the conference.
  4. The AIDA Conference Committee reserves the right to accept or refuse any abstract.
  5. The acceptance of an abstract does not imply funding by AIDA to attend the conference. No presenter fee is paid to successful presenters, and presenters (and co-presenters) must register as a delegate by the deadline and pay the relevant registration fee.
  6. Successful applicants will be notified by 9 July 2025 and will have until 30 July 2025 to register to remain in the program.

Presentation Guidelines

Each session will have an opening Acknowledgment of Country given by the Session Chair, each presenter is not required to begin their individual presentation in that session with an additional Acknowledgment of Country, however presenters are welcome to do so if they wish.

It is a requirement that all presentations and workshops value diversity, promote reflection, and use appropriate and safe terminology and language

Presentations will not be filmed; however, presenters are to be aware that the event photographer may take photos of the presenters and stage during their presentation.

Abstracts must be presented by the specified presenting author(s) except in an emergency, such as illness, where an alternative speaker can be nominated. The first author (as given on the abstract submission form) will be the main contact for any correspondence.

Presenters must agree to adhere to their assigned timeframe and agree that they will not exceed their allotted time under no circumstance. The strict time keeping is in place to ensure fairness to other presenters, to the chairpersons, and to the audience. No extra time will be given to a presenter, and presenters will be instructed to wrap up at the end of their allotted time.
